Journey of Sunwaves

Since its start in 2007, Sunwaves Festival has grown to be a major fixture in Romania’s underground electronic music landscape. First held in conjunction with Mamaia’s Labor Workers’ holiday on May 1st, the festival swiftly grew to be held twice a year. Stars like Jeff Mills and Richie Hawtin filled its stages, showcasing extended sets and elaborate audio-visual displays. Sunwaves began with 5,000 followers and has since expanded to draw over 150,000 participants annually, of whom more than 80% are from outside of Romania. In 2021, the festival expanded internationally and embraced digital innovations to create a thriving global community and improve the festival experience, such as NFTs and the Sunwaves Token (SW).
